Pitchfork Music Festival 2013
by Dan Weiss | July 19, 2013
Whatever you think of the authoritative Pitchfork site itself, its festival has undeniably become one of the best, most affordable and, recently, most diverse summer music events in America, as evinced by the stylistic and commercial breadth of this year's headliners: Bjork, Belle and Sebastian and R. Kelly. Odd Future's metal division Trash Talk, a rare appearance from nu-Italo-disco Glass Candy and the iconoclastic M.I.A. all share the same stage, alongside The Breeders, who will be performing all of Last Splash for its 20th anniversary. Members of 2013's freshman class such as Foxygen and Autre Ne Veut compete for space with winning rap veterans El-P and Killer Mike. Over three days, it's hard to imagine you won't be turned on by something, especially when the choices range from Lil B's bizarro cult of personality to Solange's throwback disco to the hammering lunacy of Metz and Swans.
