Premier Piano Pop
by Annie Zaleski | August 24, 2013
The piano has had a place in popular rock 'n' roll for as long as the genre has existed. Through the years, the ivory-tickling icons — Paul McCartney, Randy Newman, and sometime tour-mates Billy Joel and Elton John — have given way to new generations of evocative players. Whether these pianists are thoughtful solo songwriters (Bruce Hornsby, Tori Amos, Ben Folds, Regina Spektor) or are performing with a band (think of Coldplay's Chris Martin, or Death Cab for Cutie's Ben Gibbard), they all spice up traditional pop and rock music with grace, wit and style.
