I've spent most of my life a devoted "pop-timist." Candy-coated, hook-bedazzled, synthed-up, slicked-down dirrrrty pop? I revel in the stuff. But relatively speaking, I didn't listen to that much of it this year. Or, rather, I listened to a lot of hip-hop and R&B, plus a fair amount of country and world music. So my picks for 2013's best tracks make for a pretty diverse and, frankly, fairly fabulous mix that jumps from Jhené Aiko to Juana Molina, Ace Hood to Kacey Musgraves. And OK, several serious pop stars still made the cut (one can't ignore the Year of J.T.!). Here they are, in no particular order.
