Radio: Indie Now
April 2, 2012
What is "indie music"? Our goal here is not to define the indefinable, but merely to try to capture the ethos of this loosely tossed-around genre. The term "indie" has taken over from the equally dubious "alternative," meaning music tucked under this category doesn't so much encapsulate a specific sound, style or business philosophy as it provides a sort of respite from the barrage of pop music beaten into our collective heads.
Our Indie Now radio station is intended to offer you the most brand spankin' new tracks from both indie' elite and its fresh newcomers, alongside long-lasting favorites and underground hits. You'll hear and discover artists experimenting with everything from post-hardcore, post-punk and post-modern pop to psychedelic pop, baroque pop, dream pop, twee pop and electro-pop to garage rock, stadium rock, folk rock and Brit rock. (Don't worry; we won't quiz you on subgenres.)
You'll find lots of animals (Animal Collective, Fleet Foxes), collectives (Arcade Fire, Broken Social Scene), beach bums (Beach House, Best Coast), solo sirens (Lykke Li, St. Vincent), dashing duos (Sleigh Bells, She & Him), dancefloor deities (LCD Soundsystem, The Rapture), steadfast stalwarts (Radiohead, Spoon) and the latest soon-to-be indie darling(s). Press play to build up your indie cred, or feel free to just scoff at our picks with faux-ironic indignation.
