Regional Mexican Lifers

Retirement? What’s that? It doesn’t, apparently, mean much of anything to some regional Mexican outfits. Bandas like Los Tucanes de Tijuana, La Original Banda el Limón de Salvador Lizárraga, and Banda El Recodo have been going for decades. And they’re showing no signs of slowing down -- or removing themselves from the charts. Sure, the occasional personnel update or family generational passing-of-the-torch helps. But so do sheer tenacity and vivacity. Case in point: La Arrolladora Banda El Limón, who just released their umpteenth album (featuring their gazillionth chart-climbing single, “Ruido de Tus Zapatos”). So listen up to all the old dogs on this playlist, whippersnappers. You might learn a thing or two.
