Rhapsody Radar 2012 #15 Moriah Peters

by Wendy Lee Nentwig  |  July 27, 2012

She'd been playing guitar and writing her own songs since she was 13, but Moriah Peters was still turned down by American Idol due to her alleged lack of life experience. After being told by the judges to go home and kiss some boys, she decided to stick to her principles instead and embrace her "good girl" image.

The bilingual SoCal teen's full-length debut, I Choose Jesus, makes her priorities clear, delivering a "girl power" message with a godly bent. "Haven't Even Kissed" (a response to those Idol judges, perhaps?) joins nine other straight-up pop tracks that show plenty of promise. While she sings with purpose, at the same time she's goofy, gawky and flawed, freely admitting that she's just as much in need of God's grace as anybody.

Diving headfirst into a music career, Moriah spent part of 2012 on MercyMe's The Hurt & the Healer Tour, along with fellow artist Chris August. She also voiced the character Vanna Banana for the popular VeggieTales video Princess and the Popstar. Proving she has brains and talent, she's hitting the books, too, as a student at Grand Canyon University. Chances are she won't need that backup plan, but it's nice to know she's got a good head on those shoulders.
