Gossamer
Passion Pit
Passion Pit get downright earnest on their sophomore effort: "We'll make love like we're young... We can rip apart those socialists and all their damn taxes," sings twentysomething Michael Angelakos, whose falsetto sounds more wearied than wired. Gossamer captures a quarter-life crisis caged in an electro-pop paradise where slippery squeals and effects bounce off layers of undulating synths and twee harmonies. The real stunners, though, venture beyond the hipster dancefloor, like on ballad "Where We Belong" and "Constant Conversations," a slinky slice of Kanye-meets-Dirty Projectors soul.

Rhapsody Speakeasy: Passion Pit

by Rhapsody TV

Passion Pit frontman and songwriter Michael Angelakos has waged a very public battle with bipolar disorder throughout his celebrated electro-pop band's career, and especially this year, when he was forced to cancel several shows immediately after the release of the band's excellent new album, Gossamer. In this exclusive interview live from San Francisco's 2012 Outside Lands festival, he opens up for the first time about living with (and ultimately, triumphing over) the disease. We're grateful for his honesty, and we think you will be, too.
