Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 2014 Nominees
by Barry Walters | April 10, 2014
We music fans love to argue about lists, and nothing gets our dander up like the annual Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nominees. This year's 16 nominations include Nirvana, a shoe-in, as well as another sure bet, the lovely but now ailing Linda Ronstadt, the only woman to be included in the list aside from the various female voices of Chic, an act that's now been nominated eight times.
Deep Purple, KISS, LL Cool J, The Meters, N.W.A., The Paul Butterfield Blues Band and Cat Stevens also go another round, while Peter Gabriel, Hall & Oates, The Replacements, Link Wray, Yes and The Zombies all get their first nods. (Gabriel was previously inducted as a former member of Genesis.)
Encompassing hard rock, alternative rock, progressive rock, art rock, folk rock, blues rock, funk, disco, pop R&B, hip-hop and the many styles Ronstadt has tried on, this year's nominees cover lots of musical ground. This playlist includes three of each act's biggest, best and/or most representative hits. Let the brabble begin!
