Roots Picnic 2013
by Dan Weiss | May 15, 2013
Letting ?uestlove curate a festival is a no-brainer. Philly's annual Roots Picnic isn't just another chance for the dude to show off his respective one ear to the ground (The Gaslamp Killer, Joey Bada$$) and other to the charts (Macklemore, Trinidad James). Since 2007, it's been another outlet for The Roots to please crowds while showing off their immaculate taste, having brought The Dismemberment Plan, Nas and Vampire Weekend in for past events. In 2013, they've got "Oblivion"-bannering synth-pop lightning rod Grimes, indie rock's No. 1 Boyz II Men fans How to Dress Well, the extraordinarily well-connected producers Hit-Boy and AraabMUZIK, and Beyonce's sister Solange, coming off her own victory lap with "Losing You." Lesser-knowns like Gary Clark Jr., Lushlife and Robert Glasper are also expected to please.
