Dispatch have long specialized in politely crafted folk-rock that stands squarely in the middle of the road. That shouldn't be considered a knock, because these dudes write catchy tunes with sweet harmonies over touching sways and gaits. Not unlike Guster's Easy Wonderful from 2010, Circles Around The Sun reflects the band's soaking up of indie Americana, stuff like Fleet Foxes, The Avett Brothers and Father John Misty. Though they're not terribly retro, on more than a few tracks ("Josaphine," "Get Ready Boy," the title track) Dispatch nail the this-can-be-from-any-decade feeling.
Speakeasy: Dispatch
Jam-band stalwarts Dispatch proudly describe themselves as "one of the biggest bands you've never heard of"; in this exclusive Rhapsody TV chat, they discuss how they built a grassroots army, how they won over the 14-year-olds before the 30-year-olds, the genesis of their great new album Circles Around the Sun, and more. Enjoy.
