SXSW 2014: Country Preview
by Nick Murray | March 10, 2014
Texas may be known for country artists who are rough and parochial, but at the more indie-leaning SXSW, your best bets are the somewhat more refined alt country and Americana acts who come in from around the country. The best of the bunch this year is Hurray for the Riff Raff, the New Orleans-via-the Bronx singer whose Small Town Heroes is one of the standout albums of the year, and Sturgill Simpson, a honky-tonk revivalist in the style of Dwight Yoakam. Here, in our SXSW country preview, we include both, as well as tracks from a dozen more artists we recommend checking out.
