Texas' Christian Rock Stars
by Wendy Lee Nentwig | April 22, 2013
Christian musicians can come from anywhere, naturally, but some regions produce a noticeable abundance. The Lone Star State is one of those places that seem to just ooze talent. Maybe the preponderance of religious rockers from Texas can be attributed to its position at one end of the Bible Belt, which stretches eastward across the South. The Passion movement was born there, giving us such worship artists as Chris Tomlin, David Crowder Band and Charlie Hall. Other prominent Texans come from well-known mega-churches, as is the case with urban gospel star Israel Houghton. Still others made their own way, like MercyMe, Kirk Franklin and Sixpence None the Richer. Whatever the reason, we're grateful for all the music pouring out of Texas; sample this mix and you'll be glad, too.
