The World of M.I.A.
by Nick Murray | November 7, 2013
By this point, it should be safe to assume that we're all familiar with M.I.A.'s brilliance. This week, the singer/rapper/songwriter/producer/visual artist behind tracks like "Paper Planes," "Bad Girls" and "Bucky Done Gun" releases her fourth remarkable album, and instead of highlighting her best tracks, we've compiled a playlist of her many influences, everything from Baltimore's hard, breakbeat club music to the baile funk of Brazil's favelas to the liquid bass sounds currently in vogue among certain Internet communities. Where M.I.A. makes these sounds crash, merge and overlap, we've disentangled them into a collection of tracks that could get a crowd dancing just about anywhere.
