Top 10 Electronic Releases, Sept. 2013
Feel that chill in the air? You certainly will once you've dug into the fall's first wave of electronic music, much of which is marked by an unmistakably autumnal cast. U.K. trio Factory Floor traces the knife's edge separating post-punk and acid house; Jessy Lanza's seductive R&B fogs up the bedroom windowpanes; and Dial Records' Lawrence and Kansas City's Huerco S. reimagine house and techno as rural psychedelia with soundtracks to walks through wide-open fields. Donato Dozzy and Petar Dundov both explore the horizontal pleasures of ambient techno, while Forest Swords fast-forwards to the depths of winter with his invitingly bleak debut album. Fortunately, it's not all so stark: Larry Gus' second album for DFA is a masterpiece of summery psychedelia, while Holy Ghost!'s synth pop and Claude VonStroke's bouncing brand of club music are all-season affairs.
