Top 13 Hip-Hop Albums, December 2012
by Mosi Reeves | December 5, 2012
Our final roundup of new rap releases in 2012 is led by Wiz Khalifa's O.N.I.F.C. Complain all you like about the guy, whether it's his increasingly gaudy "rock star" wardrobe, his tabloid-baiting appearances with Amber Rose or his claim that he spends thousands of dollars a week on marijuana. He still knows how to produce a great-sounding album, even if this one doesn't have as many memorable hits as last year's Rolling Papers and may contain his sleepiest rapping to date.
Incidentally, Wiz is an East Coast artist -- he hails from Pittsburgh -- as are most of the artists included in this list, from Harlem's Nicki Minaj and the Bronx's Ratking to Philadelphia's Meek Mill and Freeway. Reloaded, the new album from Roc Marciano (who recently relocated to L.A.), is one of the finest examples of the East Coast's rap renaissance to date. Representing the West Coast, we have new music from Bay Area pioneers E-40 and & Too Short and Los Angeles' Pac Div.
