Top 20 Indie Releases, March 2013
by Stephanie Benson | March 28, 2013
We've got 20 (!) new albums worthy of a listen here. The list is a wealth of varying sounds and styles from a mix of veterans and newcomers. We've got Youth Lagoon's woozy, trippy, carnival-esque pop; The Strokes' '80s-styled Comedown Machine; Trent Reznor's latest electro-industrial project with wife Mariqueen Maandig and longtime producer pal Atticus Ross; and Thurston Moore's new noise-rock menace Chelsea Light Moving. There's also '90s alt angst from Wavves, more solid psych-rock shoegaze from Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, post-punk precision from Wire, skeletal machinist grit from Depeche Mode, and dramatic Brit rock from The London Suede.
But if you're pining for something younger and fresher, be sure to check out great new artists like noise-pop princess Colleen Green, London garage-rockers Palma Violets, tropical dream-pop sensations Blue Hawaii, and two passionate female singer-songwriters with two weird aliases -- Waxahatchee and Lady Lamb the Beekeeper. And that's not even all of it. Get diggin'!
