Women's History Month: Modern Global Divas
by Rachel Devitt | March 27, 2014
In honor of Women's History Month, a time dedicated to the worldwide contributions of women to history and society, we decided to honor the invaluable contributions many contemporary female artists are making to global music right now. In the last few years, a slew of fierce, fabulous, knock-your-socks-off women have taken the stage and offered a self-assured, self-possessed, completely mesmerizing take on a wide variety of musics, from flamenco to Afropop, Chinese folk music to Brazilian tropicalia. Featuring artists like Anoushka Shankar, Ana Tijoux, Concha Buika, Sa Dingding, M.I.A., CeU and more, this playlist celebrates the rise of multiple modern global divas and the impact they have already had -- and will continue to have -- on the global history of music.
