World Cup: Team Brazil
by Judy Cantor-Navas | July 9, 2014
It's a sad day in Brazil, as people mourn the defeat of the World Cup home team by Germany, knocking them out of the running to win the tournament. We hope our uplifting playlist of Brazilian music can be of some consolation. In this salute to Brazil's musical players, artists including Seu Jorge, Cláudia Leitte, Sérgio Mendes, Os Mutantes and Karol Conka are featured on songs created for or timed to this year's global tournament. Songs like "O Futebol" by Chico Buarque and "Ai Se Eu Te Pego" by Michel Teló have forever tied the artists to the game. On the other hand, many of the multigenerational performers and songs in styles from bossa nova to baile funk have nothing to do with soccer -- they simply prove that, where music is concerned, Brazil is always a winner.
