In yacht rock heaven, there's always a luxurious lounge chair awaiting you, either alongside the seashore or atop a sun-dappled pool deck, with a cool margarita or piña colada calling your name, plenty of sleek '70s/early '80s sounds to set the endless-summer mood, and a cloudless sky smiling down on it all in perpetuity. Until you arrive there, you can come pretty close to that state of bliss if your summertime pool party or beach bash is adorned with the appropriate soundtrack. So here's a choice pack of cherry-picked tunes from the era when hirsute, Hawaiian-shirted songsmiths skirted the line between soft rock and smooth pop, and everyone from icons like The Doobie Brothers and Hall & Oates to less ubiquitous acts like Orleans and the Sanford Townsend Band had a shot at yacht-rock immortality.
