Zac Brown Band's Endless Summer

Zac Brown Band are one of country music's biggest recent success stories precisely because they don't confine themselves to country music -- they're basically a vaguely country-flavored jam band just as likely to break into a fiddle-heavy bluegrass stomp or a honeymoon-ready reggae lilt. They're awesome live. Go see 'em. But their albums are fantastic, too, including the new Uncaged, which we're celebrating here at Rhapsody with an extended review, some exclusive from-the-vault interview stuff (recipes!), a look at some other current country smashes, and much more. Zac Brown Band

Zac Brown has described Uncaged as a "country-Southern rock-bluegrass-reggae-jam" record. It's quite a mouthful, but it's also an accurate tag for the band's multifaceted sound. Uncaged features shades of '70s lite rockers James Taylor("Goodbye in Her Eyes") and The Eagles ("Last But Not Least"), along with Southern rock ("Uncaged") and the breezy, country-tinged island sound of Jimmy Buffett and Kenny Chesney ("Jump Right In," "Island Song"). Together, these shades saturate ZBB's sound with the kind of diverse, colorful palette that both country fans and jam-hungry hippies love.
