Blue Note 7

Pianist Bill Charlap leads a modern super-group (which includes Nicholas Payton and John Coltrane's son Ravi) in celebration of Blue Note's hard-hitting bop sound. The tunes heard here were originally made famous by such Blue Note royalty as Thelonious Monk ("Criss Cross"), Joe Henderson ("Inner Urge") and McCoy Tyner ("Search For Peace"). The set works by not only showcasing the originals but by proving that the spirit of jazz excellence and adventure that Blue Note defined is still very much alive.
