Cham

On his debut, Cham finds the middle ground between the ferocious, but morally flawed, dancehall of Buju Banton and the light Caribbean pop of Sean Paul. The folksy but catchy title track, which is also the lead single, presents a series of island vignettes that are refreshing because they celebrate the struggles rather than the struggles' booty. The song's production is old school dancehall -- tinier and less foreboding than the modern stuff -- and perfectly complements the lyrics' quaintly anti-materialistic themes.
