Cheater Slicks

About

Cheater Slicks may have shared many bills with Jon Spencer's Blues Explosion early in their career, but the band, formed in Boston in 1988, played a bluesy garage punk that was trashier, meaner and far more abrasive than the good-timey party rock of Blues Explosion. Still active well into the '00s after relocating to Columbus, Ohio, in 1997, brothers Tom and David Shannon handle guitars with drummer Dana Hatch and no bass. Through the course of nine records for In the Red and Crypt, Cheater Slicks have honed their negative-energy rock 'n' roll to a truly menacing point, and although they have always remained somewhere in the background (even during the mid-'90s garage rock renaissance), these days they enjoy a respected, elder-statesmen status in the garage punk scene.
