Cheater Slicks

Cheater Slicks channel Royal Trux and '60s Stones on this 1999 album, their sixth. Highlighted by an incredible take on Lee Hazlewood's "Think I'm Coming Down," Refried Dreams finds Cheater Slicks evolving from the strictures of garage punk into a more traditional, if clinically depressed, rock band. "In This Town" and "Another Stab" sketch the nihilism of emotionally empty daily life with an accuracy only they are capable of, and while the album is almost nonstop bummer times, few things sound better when you have that "I hate everything" feeling. Not to be played at parties.
