Description of Gospel

In the broadest sense of the term, Gospel encompasses most music made for Christian audiences ever since African slaves were brought to America, and negro spirituals began changing the sound of religious-themed music. This includes Gospel Choirs, small vocal combos, country artists tackling religious themes, blues Gospel and modern Gospel songs -- which often incorporate pop muscianship and hooks in order to reach a wider audience.
