His playing establishes him as an emerging talent in England's new generation of guitarists. Their LP also includes a cover of Hendrix's "Little Wing," and is a cornerstone of '70s rock. Waters originally played demos of this album and The Wall to his bandmates, who liked The Wall better. It sells seven million copies, brings in a harvest at the Grammys and ignites the unplugged trend of the '90s. A "Clapton Is God" graffiti craze takes over underground train stations in London. Seriously. Though still largely unknown in the US, Bob Marley's recognition gets a boost when Clapton takes the tune to the top of the charts. Cale writes two of Clapton's biggest hits including "After Midnight," and a famous ode to Colombian contraband, "Cocaine." Clapton first covered Robert Johnson decades earlier in Cream. Though Cream stays together for only two years, they're among the '60s most influential rock acts. Are You Experienced? takes England by storm. Babyface and Clapton collaborate for chart-topping Grammy winner "Change the World." With Cream on the outs, he asks to join the group, but is denied. The controversial cover of their LP featured a Bob Seidemann photo of a topless girl holding a space ship. According to Seidemann, "We asked her what her fee should be for modeling. She said a young horse." In the US, the record is issued with alternate artwork. Riding high on the success of his unplugged sessions, this is Clapton's searing comeback.
