Over-the-top declarations that veer from Sartre-esque ("Life is cruel/and then you die") to Anna Nicole-like ("Just give me love/just give me sex/just give me money") are tempered by steady electro beats, lonely New Order synths, and cool female vocals. City drips with the kind of sexiness that comes from coldhearted detachment and power trips.

Like a lot of ladies fronting electropop bands, these two Northern England women sing with
a cold detachment -- which would be fine if their fondness for pop weren't so theoretical
or if their electro weren't so austere. City is so drab that the cameos from the Libertines'
frontmen get lost in the darkness.
