Colin Meloy

Colin Meloy equates his long solo set to a "campfire sing-along" -- an assertion with which fans of the Decemberists' elaborate orchestration might agree -- but the roar of the crowd after each song, and rapturous silence during them, is evidence of one helluva campfire. The performance is a little lonesome -- just expert singing and strumming a big ole acoustic -- but it underscores the smarts of Meloy's writing and his gifts as a singer. The must is the medley of "Here I Dreamt I Was an Architect" with a tagged-on coda of Fleetwood Mac's "Dreams."
