Darude

Few artists profess to like the pigeonholes in which they're placed, so it's no wonder that the tauntingly titled Label This! finds progressive trance mainstay Darude branching out into new territory. "My Game" kicks the record off with an unmistakable modern rock touch -- distorted guitars, Smashing Pumpkins-style vocals and all. "I Ran" beefs up the Flock of Seagulls with searing leads and hands-in-the-air buildups, while "Bad" experiments with breaks. If there were any doubt about Darude's allegiances, the title track's refrain lays them out: "Dance, house electro." Duly noted.
