About
The English Beat and General Public owe much of their success to Dave Wakeling's guitar and bittersweet vocals, which brought a touch of classic Beatles/Kinks style pop to Ska and dance music in the 1980s. Since then, he's kept the pundits guessing with his harder-edged work with the Free Radicals and Bang! before finally cashing in on post-Wedding Singer nostalgia for all things '80s. And even though the English Beat have a new recording contract with London Records, Wakeling doesn't need a band to sound good -- his guitar and voice allow one to see the sensitive Singer-Songwriter lurking inside all those delightful Pop tunes.
