As any Delhead can tell you, the title track is one of McCoury's most popular tunes, a sing-along anthem for Appalachians proud of their heritage and tradition. The rest of the album is killer as well. In the early 1970s, while "progressives" like the Dillards and the Osbournes cut bluegrass with rock and pop, the Dixie Pals stripped the music to its barest essentials. In fact, High on a Mountain just might be one of the most austere and beautiful examples of Bill Monroe's high lonesome sound.
