Derrick Carter

About

As one of the people who helped spur the 1990s house revival in Chicago, Derrick Carter produces a hearty blend of house and techno -- i.e. dreamy, lofty house music full of funk and grooves, with complex beat arrangements more rooted in Techno. Once described by Detroit's Richie Hawtin (a.k.a. Plastikman; Plus 8 Records, Minus Records) as "America's last true underground DJ," Carter has produced a number of hits since launching his career in the late 1980s, including "An Open Secret," "I'm Sorry," and "Limbo In Slo Mo." Carter records under a variety of names (including Rednail, Symbols and Instruments, Oneiro and Tone Theory), has collaborated with numerous techno DJs and producers (including Mark Farina, Luke Solomon, Chris Nazuka and John Griffin) on numerous house tracks, and has founded two labels (Blue Cucaracha and Classic). Carter's latest work is a raucous romp through techno and acid house/deep house territory, and continues to prove his talent.
