Dixie Chicks

No one has been kicked around by country music more than the Dixie Chicks, when a remark about President Bush at a concert in London resulted in serious, career-altering repercussions. Home was released before any of that flap and highlights what we love most about the Chicks: their playful take on bluegrass and down-home roots music. While rowdy, fiddle-heavy songs such as "Long Time Gone" pined for simpler times (and the music of Hank, Cash, Haggard) and proved to be a highlight of this 2002 release, nothing matched the story that unfolded in the hushed tones of "Travelin' Soldier" -- not even the ace cover of Fleetwood Mac's "Landslide."
