Also known as DJ Cucumber Slice, New York's Bobbito Garcia is the epitome of a hip-hop renaissance man. He ruled NYC's independent radio scene for over a decade, first alongside Stretch Armstrong, and later with Lord Sear on the "CM Famalam" show that aired on Columbia University's WKCR. Bobbito played numerous up-and-coming artists, spinning early joints from such acts as Nas and Wu-Tang, and helping to discover heads such as Non Phixion and Necro. An accomplished journalist, he's penned his own column, "Bobbito's Soundcheck," in Vibe magazine since 1995, and has written for several other hip-hop publications. He also founded the influential record label Fondle 'Em, which released mostly 12-inch singles from the likes of the Jugganauts, MF Doom, and Cage. Fondle 'Em has since become his new label, Fruitmeat. Bobbito also helped put together Vinyl Exams, a compilation album of old school classics released in 2000. In addition to all of his musical endeavors, he's a longtime member of the O.G. hip-hop collective Rock Steady Crew (his specialty is uprocking), and an accomplished actor who's appeared in several films (Son Of Sam, Above The Rim, etc) and Nike commercials. He's also a seriously skilled basketball player and a notorious sneaker fiend, currently writing a book about New York shoe culture called Where'd You Get These?. Bobbito's legendary radio program came to a close in late 2002, but you can still find him deejaying various clubs and parties around NYC.
