Aside from maybe Dr. Dre, Compton producer and emcee DJ Quik is the foremost ambassador of West Coast G-Funk. This greatest hits collection leans heavily upon his earlier work, which sounds a bit dated: "Quik Is the Name" references Techmo Bowl and features the sort of scratchy, jittery funk that was en vogue before Dre dropped The Chronic. Drive-by soundtracks ("Loked Out Hood") and gangsta vignettes (take your pick) are cut with a healthy dose of BBQ anthems ("Summer Breeze," "Pitch in Ona Party"), making this a competent compilation of one of the West Coast's finest.
