DJ Screw

Long before screw music became a national phenomenon, with nearly every major Southern release being screwed, DJ Screw was creating wonderfully twisted Southern psychedelia. You know the drill: everything has been slowed down to a crawl as if replicating a codeine cough-syrup high. The snail's pace reveals deep underlying grooves in the music, while the rappers (Lil' Keke, Lil' Flip and Z Ro, among others) sound like 100 drunken gods roaming a savage south Texas landscape in search of wood-grain rims, shiny rocks and all things trill.
