Djavan

About

Brazil's Djavan is one of those rare company men you find in pop music: he's been gigging and writing songs for nearly four decades and his relevance shows no signs of waning. He started out in the music industry as a singer for soap operas (after a few stints in cover bands), and he worked his way up the ranks from there. Drawing on northern Brazilian folkloric and jazz influences, Djavan began releasing solo albums and playing long-running solo shows. In the eighties he drew the attention of both Stevie Wonder and Quincy Jones - powerful friends to have. In 2000, he won a Latin Grammy for Best Brazilian Song.
