Doyle Lawson

Doyle Lawson and Quicksilver's 30th album boasts some excellent concept songs. The title track tells the tale of a family vacation photograph that deceivingly shows a happy moment for an otherwise dysfunctional group of kinfolk. Lawson's George Jones-inspired inflections give this song a heartfelt honky-tonk edge. "The Phone Call" furthers the notion of family relations, this time between a father and son trying to make amends. "Can You Hear Me Now" was produced to sound like a 1930s string-band recording, but comes off sounding like it was mixed through walkie-talkie speakers.
