East River Pipe

About

While many Indie and Post-Rock acts rally in pursuit of infinite melody (see: Cocteau Twins, Brian Eno), few achieve the intimacy and lush passion of East River Pipe's intensely beautiful songs. A devout "tape op" and analog purist, FM Cornog's work contains the anticipatory sounds that define many Dream Pop acts: lush reverb, twisting, phasing synths and the amply spatial arrangements that complement such expansive, collage-oriented work. What makes East River Pipe so haunting and unique, however, is the uncompromising sound of long and lonely months recording, mixing and waiting for songs' perfect moment of capture; it sounds as if he's documented each song at its most vulnerably passionate and perfectly evolved state. Such an approach is oddly -- yet genuinely -- spontaneous, and it's a method that imparts the sound of fleeting beauty and remarkable focus in all of his work.
