Ed Harcourt can do it all and do it all well – write, sing, arrange, produce and play every instrument known to man. While this can lead Harcourt to cram too many good ideas into a song, he also displays the wisdom to let things breathe on tunes such as "Kids." Too unrestrained for baroque pop, Strangers has more rock bite than anything he's done before.

Ed Harcourt's first two albums weren't much fun. 2001's doomy, romantic Here Be Monsters
and 2003's similar From Every Sphere saw the British singer-songwriter emoting in an eerily
