A pioneering crew representing Roxbury, Mass., Ed O.G & Da Bulldogs were the first squad to put long-neglected Boston on the hip-hop map. Their excellent debut, 1991's Life of a Kid in the Ghetto, sported stellar production and positive lyrics, including the quintessential paternal anthem "Be A Father To Your Child." Several singles furthered their rep, and they scored a nationwide hit with "I Got To Have It." Unfortunately, label drama hampered their follow-up, Roxbury, 02119, leading to the group's demise. Ed O.G. resurfaced with an EP in '96, and kept his career alive with numerous 12"s and collaborations. In 2001 he released his long-awaited full-length "The Truth Hurts."
