This is where Jeff Lynne took complete control of ELO, bringing a classical chamber group and synths to his Beatles-obsessed space rock. Way proggier than later efforts, though "Mama," a beautiful ballad and one-time FM radio staple, contains the sound everyone associates with ELO. "Kuiama," the 11-minute closer, is a pretty freaking great example of southern rock in a powdered wig. This edition adds three alternative versions and a charming cover of the oldie "Baby I Apologize."
