Description of Electropop

Not a style easily identified with any particular tribe or location, electropop is the globally appealing idea of recasting the traditional indie-rock song with synthesisers and processed beats. Its obvious antecedent is the 1980s synth pop of Depeche Mode, New Order and Yazoo, but most electropop acts also owe an influence to Stereolab and the loungier strains of post-rock. Unashamedly retro, often kitsch, electropop proves that abandoning the guitar doesn't have to mean submitting to facelessness and formlessness.
