Description of Electronica/Dance

Rooted in dub, disco and 20th-century avant-garde, electronic music encompasses the explosion of sounds that grew out of electropop, Chicago house, Detroit techno and New York garage. Rooted in technology -- synthesizers, drum machines, samplers and software -- electronic music makes fair game of every conceivable sound, whether put into the service of contemplation at home or collective frenzy on the dancefloor. A worldwide network of overlapping scenes, be they mainstream, underground or in between, gives the music a truly global reach. Still futuristic after all these years, its evolution remains fast and furious.
