Extrawelt

Extrawelt take minimal techno into outer space on this album for Sven Väth's Cocoon label. Opening with a glitchy homage to the synthesizer epics of the '70s, they burrow into a fierce, rippling groove that sustains the whole album. Having forged a club banger or two in their day, Extrawelt let the album format take them deeper and weirder, with intricate, almost industrial rhythms giving way to eruptions of beatless tone. Extrawelt's trademark trance inflections create a sweeping sense of proportion, while wobbly bass lends a taste of old-school rave.
