Flying Lotus

L.A. beatmaker Flying Lotus marked his arrival on England's Warp label with a double-meaninged missive: part love letter to his hometown, part admission that he'll never stay faithful. Lurching breaks and warbly jazz samples pay homage to Stones Throw's brand of SoCal soul, but both the low-end undercurrent and high-end shimmer have more in common with the avant dubsteppers of the U.K.'s amorphous "bass music" scene.
