Description of Field Recordings

Field Recordings are recordings made of regional folksingers, folk groups, and families, with the purpose of preserving a folk culture that hasn't quite reached a commercial place in the modern music industry. Folklorists such as Alan Lomax and Harry Smith have preserved hours of recordings of blues tunes, Appalachian folk ballads and even more obscure audio artifacts. Don't expect high fidelity; rather listen for strains of forgotten or ignored musical styles, and lyrics dealing with rural and country life.
