Foxboro Hot Tubs

About

This Green Day side project started in late 2007, and by the time Foxboro Hot Tubs' debut album was released in mid-April 2008, the "group" had taken on a life of its own. In early 2008, the song "Mother Mary" had been released to alternative radio outlets, charting as high as No. 16 on Billboard's Modern Rock chart. So when Stop Drop and Roll finally was released, Green Day's MySpace fans already knew what to expect. The songs on SDandR bear the unmistakable mark of Billie Joe Armstrong's vocals, but the music is steeped in '60s garage rock. In fact, if Green Day had cut their teeth in a garage instead of at Gilman Street, they might have sounded like Foxboro Hot Tubs from the start. Raw sounds abound, with simple chord progressions, hand claps, lots of background harmonies and the occasional organ snaking its way through sonic flashbacks. Yes, Foxboro Hot Tubs come ready to please your inner go-go dancer. Because of the on-again, off-again nature of this project (their songs were put up on MySpace and taken down a number of times), it's unclear how seriously Green Day take this "side project" or if there will be more music in the future.
