Ganger

About

This Scottish four piece got their start in '95 with the release of the EP Half-Nelson. An angular record with loping grooves and squawking horns, it reeked of Can via John Zorn via Tortoise. More EPs followed all of which were collected on the LP Forein '96. The following year saw the departure of two founding members. Enter Ganger pt.2. With the addition of a new bassist/vocalist and guitarist, Ganger began releasing a series of experimental singles on the Soul Static Sound label. This culminated in the release of Hammock Style in '98. With shorter, more concise songs Hammock Style showed a band that was capable of being expansive, atonal, and complex without losing sight of rhythm. Unfortunately, the band broke up in 1999.
