Description

Comic Songs employ the usual comedic methodology -- sarcasm, parody, and the almighty exaggerated gesture, to name a few -- in hopes of eliciting laughter. The Comic Song can belong to any musical genre imaginable, but most fall under the rock/pop, jazz vocal, country and rap headings. Major artists that normally maintain a serious tone in their music occasionally record Comic Songs, though they're often relegated to rare status almost immediately: e.g. the Beatles' "You Know My Name [Look Up The Number" and Pearl Jam's "Gremmie Out of Control." Other artists, like Frank Zappa and Ween, rely on Comic Songs as the backbone of some releases.
